Step 1: Bake the Cake
- Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the cake mix box.
- Prepare the cake batter according to the package instructions and pour it into the greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
- Bake the cake for the time specified on the box or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once done, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely in the pan.
Step 2: Prepare the Jello
- In a large mixing bowl, dissolve one box of jello in 1 cup of boiling water. Stir until fully dissolved.
- Add 1 cup of cold water to the jello mixture and mix well.
- Pour the jello over the cooled cake, making sure it seeps into the cake layers.
- Repeat this process with the other two jello flavors, allowing each layer to set in the refrigerator for about 1-2 hours.
Step 3: Frost the Cake
- Once the jello has fully set, remove the cake from the refrigerator.
- If desired, beat the cream cheese until smooth and fold it into the whipped topping.
- Spread the whipped topping mixture over the top of the cake evenly.
- Optional: Garnish with fresh fruit, sprinkles, or chocolate shavings.
Step 4: Chill and Serve
- Place the jello cake back in the refrigerator for an additional hour to let the frosting set.
- Once chilled, slice the cake and serve it cold.
