Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped
1 teaspoon paprika (or smoked paprika for extra flavor)
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to your spice preference)
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Optional: Red pepper flakes for added heat

Equipment

  • A small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl
  • A whisk or fork
  • Measuring Spoons
  • A serving bowl

Method

Melt the Butter:
  1. In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. You can also use a microwave if you prefer. Be careful not to overheat the butter; it should just melt without boiling.
Add Garlic:
  1. Once the butter is melted, stir in the minced garlic. Allow it to cook for a minute or two until fragrant. You can either keep the butter on low heat or remove it from heat after adding the garlic to prevent burning.
Mix the Ingredients:
  1. Add the Dijon mustard, lemon juice, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to the melted butter. Whisk the ingredients together until well-combined.
Incorporate Fresh Herbs:
  1. Stir in the chopped parsley and chives. These fresh herbs will add a burst of flavor and a hint of color to your cowboy butter.
Optional Spice Boost:
  1. If you like your butter on the spicy side, add a pinch of red pepper flakes. Mix everything together one last time to ensure the flavors are evenly distributed.
Serve:
  1. Transfer the cowboy butter into a serving bowl. You can serve it immediately as a dip for steak, bread, or seafood. If you're basting meat with it, use a brush to coat your grilled meats for an extra layer of flavor.
